Randy Pausch: "We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."

La scomparsa di Steve Jobs mi ha fatto tornare alla mente un uomo che ha avuto molto in comune col mago della Apple. Stessa passione per l'informatica, stesso triste destino. Ma soprattutto una vita intensa, vissuta al massimo delle proprie capacità fino alla fine, una vita volta a realizzare non solo i propri sogni ma anche quelli degli altri.

Randy Pausch è stato un informatico statunitense, professore di Informatica, Interazione Uomo-Computer e Design alla Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) di Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania.

E' nato a Blatimora, nel Maryland, il 23 ottobre 1960. Ha trascorso l'infanzia a Columbia, per poi laurearsi in Informatica alla Brown University di Providence e conseguire il Dottorato in Scienze Informatiche alla CMU. Durante lo studio per il Dottorato, ha lavorato brevemente per la PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated) e per Adobe Systems.
Durante il suo incarico di assistente e professore associato alla University of Virginia dal 1988 al 1997, ha trascoro un periodo sabbatico tra la Walt Disney Imagineering (il settore che si occupa dello sviluppo creativo e del design dei parchi a tema della Disney) e la Electronic Arts (EA).

"You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever - because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference."
